From Omar:
“A few months ago, I had my first (and last) kickboxing fight, raising money for Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Borneo Komrad. I'm definitely no athlete, but proud of myself for getting in the ring at 40 years old. I tried my best, had heaps of fun and GOT THE WIN!!

Doing the fight was the culmination of a long journey. There was a time, less than five years ago, before I started Muay Thai, when I drank and smoked every day and I’d lose my breath literally tying up my shoelaces. Training gave me discipline, community and was invaluable to my mental health. I just wanted to fight once, to feel what it was like! But no more fights for this old fella - the ole simultaneous debut and retirement trick hehe. Back to the writing!!

Thanks to my coaches Rayyan and Deanver, my opponent Mohamad, teammates at Kinabalu Fighters, Borneo Fight Fest AND ESPECIALLY to everyone who donated: AUD$2565 raised for Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Borneo Komrad, doing amazing advocacy/education work with stateless people. So, so grateful for the support and generosity of everyone who helped out.
